Empowerment of women is no longer a mere slogan but rather the cornerstone for the establishment of a society that can be both equitable and prosperous. Where women are provided with education, economic empowerment, healthcare and decision-making opportunities, not only does their family prosper but the whole community and economy flourish. Empowering Women: Project Udaan by InAmigos Foundation aims to provide these conditions to make empowerment of women a reality. 

  

Barriers to women's empowerment are multifold and interconnected. Education gap, child marriages and biased cultural beliefs about women restrict female freedom right from the childhood years. The lack of economic empowerment through skill development and equal pay and inadequate access to finance further binds these women in a state of dependency and uncertainty. Violence against women, sexual and domestic, discrimination in job market and lack of reproductive and mental healthcare facilities further hinder the empowerment process. 

Udaan Project finds solutions to these challenges in practical actions. Education and skill development activities constitute the backbone of the project. Literacy education, vocational training, and digital skills help empower women financially so that they can earn an income. Secondly, economic empowerment through microfinance, entrepreneurship promotion, and market connectivity helps women have control over resources and opportunities. Thirdly, health and safety campaigns through awareness generation, counseling, and provision of health care services safeguard the well-being of women. Fourthly, the community development and empowerment initiative makes it possible for community members to become active in the empowerment process. 

  

The benefits of empowering women are both qualitative and quantitative in nature. Empowerment through working means higher incomes for women and hence for their families. Education of women will improve the education of their children and health care status. It has been noted that enterprises started by women invest back into the community more than other enterprises do. Also, decision-making power for women is crucial. 

 

Project Udaan is both targeted and scalable through its interventions that are localized and sustainable by fostering local leadership and tailoring solutions to local requirements.
